FAQ’s

Does my child have to register for the basketball league?

Yes, every player has to be registered with the league, even if they have played in the league in the past; and even if their parent is a coach in the SJBL.

For which age group should my child register?

All ages shall be determined by the player’s age on October 15th of the upcoming basketball season.

Does my child have to attend skills assessments?

No, your child does not HAVE to attend skills assessments….BUT…

Players who go to one night of skills assessments can be drafted by any coach on draft day. Players who do not attend one night of skills assessments will be placed on rosters at the completion of the regular draft.

If your child and coach are not changing age groups, then your child will be noted as a “returning player” and will remain on the same team. If this fits your situation, your child will not need to attend skills assessments.

If your child is returning to the same age group, but the coach is not returning, your child will need to attend skills assessments in order to be drafted by another coach. If your child does not attend one night of skills assessments, they will be placed on a roster at the completion of the regular draft.

My child played for “Coach X” last season. Will my child be on the same team this season?

If your child is changing age divisions, your child will have to go thru the player draft for the upcoming season.

If your coach is also changing divisions, your child could have the same coach again IF the coach drafts your child.

If your child and coach are not changing age groups, then your child will be noted as a “returning player” and will remain on the same team. If this fits your situation, your child will not need to attend skills assessments.

NOTE: If you don’t want your child to play for the same coach, you can note that information during the registration process.

Can you tell me about team practices?

Each team is limited to one 90 minute practice session per week.

During the league draft, head coaches select their practice time/location for the season from the available slots provided by SJBL.
